The Viowiess Viol Shape mute is part of the Prizma line, which combines conventional Tourte-style function with a patented acoustic resonating mesh and a distinctive multi-colour printed surface. The viol shape has a single slot, designed to fit precisely on a single string or between two strings, and includes a locking mechanism that prevents the rattle that can plague cheaper mutes when they sit on the strings near the tailpiece. The acoustic mesh is engineered to let the instrument resonate even while muted, so the tone retains body rather than sounding flat.

The viol shape is designed for situations where you want mezzo-piano rather than pianissimo: a moderate reduction in volume and a softening of the upper harmonics, while the acoustic mesh allows the instrument to continue resonating. It is the right choice for studio recording sessions, chamber music passages, and any context where a subtler, more natural muted tone is preferable to the heavy dampening of a full practice mute.

How to use

Fitting and parking the mute.

• Slide the single slot over the A string (or between A and D) onto the bridge to mute. The precision fit means it seats without wobbling.
• To park, slide back toward the tailpiece. The locking mechanism holds it in place on the string without rattling during playing.
• The mute can also be fully removed and stored in your case if preferred.
• Colours are randomly mixed: your mute may differ from product images.

Care and storage

Minimal maintenance required.

Wipe the surface with a dry cloth to remove rosin dust. The multi-colour print is durable but avoid abrasive cleaners that might affect the surface finish. Store in the instrument case or leave parked on the strings; the locking design keeps it secure during transport.
