Thomastik-Infeld Versum Solo · Single Cello String

Versum Solo,
brighter power, built for the soloist.

Individual replacement strings from the Thomastik-Infeld Versum Solo family. Carbon-steel cores with multi-alloy windings on the A and D, spiral rope cores with tungsten/chrome on the G and C. Greater brilliance and projection than the standard Versum, with a warmly musical core.

About Versum Solo

Voiced for brilliance and projection without losing warmth.

The Thomastik-Infeld Versum Solo is engineered to deliver greater brilliance and projection than the standard Versum, while maintaining the warmly musical core that makes the Versum family popular among professional cellists. The result is a set that cuts through concerto accompaniment and still blends elegantly in chamber and orchestral contexts.

Carbon-steel cores on the A and D provide a clear, singing upper register with multi-alloy windings that speak immediately and stay stable. Spiral rope cores on the G and C with tungsten/chrome windings offer a focused, projecting lower register with muscular depth and sophisticated colour. Made in Vienna by Thomastik-Infeld.

The four voices

What each string brings.

A · Carbon-Steel / Multi-Alloy · 18.2 kg

Clear, singing treble

Carbon-steel core with multi-alloy winding. A clear, projecting upper register that speaks immediately and stays stable. Voiced for brilliance with a warm undertone.

D · Carbon-Steel / Multi-Alloy · 14.3 kg

Articulate midrange

Matched carbon-steel and multi-alloy construction. Articulate and responsive, transitioning seamlessly from the upper register to the lower strings.

G · Spiral Rope / Tungsten-Chrome · 14.3 kg

Focused lower-mid

Spiral rope core with tungsten/chrome winding. A focused, projecting G with muscular depth and sophisticated colour. Excellent for concerto playing and power in the lower register.

C · Spiral Rope / Tungsten-Chrome · 13.7 kg

Powerful foundation

Spiral rope core with tungsten/chrome winding. A powerful, resonant C with strong projection and clean articulation. The foundation of the Versum Solo's solo voice.

Playability

Quick to react, powerful under the bow, stable over time.

Versum Solo strings are quick to react, accept heavy bow pressure, and retain clarity at pianissimo. Suitable for crisp articulation, cantabile playing, and contemporary techniques. Break-in is brief, and the set remains consistent over long sessions and touring schedules.

The 4/4 scale is set at a vibrating length of 70.0 cm. Tuning stability is reliable across varying temperatures and humidity, making Versum Solo a practical choice for the professional stage. The set works well across solo, chamber, and orchestral playing, though its primary strength is projection and brilliance in solo contexts.

Frequently asked

Versum Solo cello strings, in short.

How does Versum Solo differ from the standard Versum?

The Versum Solo is voiced for greater brilliance and projection. The standard Versum has a warmer, more balanced voice suited to a wider range of contexts. The Solo is optimised for solo and concerto use where cutting through an orchestra is a priority.

How long do Versum Solo strings last?

Lifespan depends on playing hours, perspiration, and environment. A daily-playing professional or advanced student should expect several months of consistent tone. Replace when the sound becomes dull or unfocused.

How long do new Versum Solo strings take to settle in?

Break-in is brief. Allow 24 to 48 hours of normal playing. Retune gently and wipe rosin residue off after each session.

Are these genuine Thomastik-Infeld strings?

Yes. Symphonia stocks Thomastik-Infeld through the official supply chain. If a string is faulty on arrival or fails prematurely under normal use, we arrange the replacement directly.
