About Magnacore
Warmth, complexity, and clarity in one set.
Larsen Magnacore is one of the most widely loved professional cello string ranges in the world. It is built around a multi-stranded steel core on the G and C and solid steel cores with stainless-steel windings on the A and D, a construction that gives cellists the warmth and tonal complexity often associated with gut, but with the tuning stability and durability of steel.
Magnacore is voiced for orchestral, chamber, and solo playing. It is equally at home in lyrical passages and powerful fortissimos, and adapts comfortably to a wide range of bowing techniques and repertoire styles.
Choose your voicing
Original or Arioso.
Magnacore Original · Medium
Full-bodied and complex
The original Magnacore voicing. Versatile and powerful, with depth and projection across the dynamic range. A nuanced tonal palette that responds beautifully to subtle bow changes, and the clarity to keep every note focused.
Best for cellists who want a single set that handles solo, chamber, and orchestral playing equally well, with a strong centred core.
Magnacore Arioso
Open and singing
A more expressive variation. Medium-tension A and D for focused projection, paired with lower-tension G and C for warmth and resonance. Voiced toward a gut-like, open, singing tone while keeping the tuning stability and durability of a steel-core string.
Best for cellists who want a more lyrical, vocal voice and a freer feel under the bow on the lower strings.

Frequently asked
Larsen Magnacore cello strings, in short.
What is the difference between Magnacore Original and Arioso?
The Original (Medium) Magnacore set is a full-bodied, versatile voice voiced for projection and complexity across the full dynamic range. The Arioso set keeps the same A and D tension for focus but uses lower-tension G and C for a more open, singing low-register feel that is closer to a gut voice while staying tuning-stable.
How long do Larsen Magnacore strings last?
Lifespan depends on playing hours, perspiration, and climate. A daily-playing professional or advanced student should expect several months of consistent tone from a set. Replace when the sound becomes dull, unfocused, or false in the upper positions.
How long do new Magnacore strings take to settle in?
Allow 24 to 72 hours of normal playing for the strings to settle. Retune gently in small increments and wipe rosin residue off after each session. Avoid sudden temperature changes where possible.
Are Larsen Magnacore strings authentic?
Yes. Symphonia stocks Larsen Magnacore through the official Larsen Strings supply chain. If a string is faulty on arrival or fails prematurely under normal use, we will arrange a replacement in line with the manufacturer's warranty.
