Larsen Original viola strings combine a carbon-steel A with nylon-core D, G and C, offering tonal clarity, projection and responsiveness. Made in Denmark, they strike a balance between brightness and warmth that suits a wide range of playing styles and repertoire, from solo work to section playing.

Vibrant, clear top voice
The A is vibrant and focused, delivering clarity and projection from the top string without brittleness. The ball end fits standard fine tuners.
Balanced, even middle
The D sits evenly at the tonal centre. Balanced response and a consistent character make it easy to blend in section playing and project in solo passages.
Clear, resonant lower voice
The G is clear and resonant, providing a solid lower voice with enough body to carry in orchestral textures and enough clarity for solo work.
Full, projecting foundation

What size viola do these fit?
These strings are sized for 4/4 viola, the standard full-size instrument. The A string has a ball end that fits standard fine tuners.
How long do Larsen Original strings last?
Under regular playing the tone stays consistent for several months. Replace when the sound becomes dull or intonation in the upper positions starts to go false. Wipe rosin off after each session to extend lifespan.
How long do new strings take to settle?
Allow 24 to 72 hours of normal playing for pitch to stabilise. Retune gently in small increments during the settling period.
Are these strings authentic Larsen?
Yes. Symphonia stocks Larsen strings through the official supply chain. If a string is faulty, damaged or incorrect, contact Symphonia so we can assess the issue and arrange the appropriate remedy. Do I need to add individual strings as well as a set?
A set already includes its listed strings. Add an individual string only if you want an extra or a different string. Check the selected set’s contents before ordering.
What does “Available online only” mean?
That option is not currently held at our Auckland store and is available for delivery. It is not available for immediate store collection. Availability can differ between options, so check the label beside each item.
