Pirastro · Violin String
Passione,
gut warmth, modern stability.
A modern gut string delivering a full, round, and warm core sound with a complex overtone spectrum. Immediately playable with significantly reduced playing-in time and far greater tuning stability than traditional gut. Individual E, A, D, and G strings for 4/4 violin.
About Passione
The best of both worlds: gut warmth, synthetic reliability.
Passione strings deliver what traditional gut players love about gut tone, while removing the frustrations that come with it. The gut core produces a full, round, and warm sound with a complex, fascinating overtone spectrum. As a modern gut string, Passione features a significantly reduced playing-in time and is immediately playable, offering far greater tuning stability than traditional gut strings.
The result is a set that is big and powerful yet capable of a fascinating diversity of sounds. Both E string variants (loop and ball) are available to suit different tailpiece fittings.
The four voices
E, A, D, G — each string's character.
E String
Clear and brilliant
Silvery steel. Provides a clear, brilliant, and powerful response that complements the warm gut character of the lower three strings.
A String
Warm gut response
Aluminium wound over gut core, 13.5 gauge. Easy response with the warm, complex tonal colour of gut, but with enhanced tuning stability.
D String
Rich and nuanced
Silver wound over gut core, 13.5 gauge. Rich, powerful, and highly nuanced through the middle register.
G String
Big and grounding
Silver wound over gut core, 16.5 gauge. Big and powerful on the low string, providing a full, warm, and projecting foundation for the whole set.
Playability
Gut warmth, without the gut playing-in time.
Traditional gut strings require days or weeks of settling before they are stable enough to use in performance. Passione is immediately playable with a greatly reduced playing-in period, giving you the warmth and complexity of gut on the day you put them on. Tuning stability is far better than traditional gut, making Passione a practical choice for working musicians who want the gut sound without the gut compromises.

Frequently asked
Passione violin strings, in short.
What is the difference between Passione and traditional gut strings?
Passione uses a gut core for the warm, complex tonal character associated with gut strings, but has been engineered as a modern gut string. It plays in significantly faster than traditional gut and offers far better tuning stability, making it practical for rehearsal and performance immediately after stringing.
What is the gauge difference between A and D?
The A string is 13.5 gauge and the D is also 13.5 gauge. The G is 16.5 gauge. These are medium tension strings.
How long do Passione gut strings last?
Gut strings generally have a shorter lifespan than synthetic core strings. Replace when the tone becomes dull, intonation becomes unreliable, or the string surface shows visible wear. Playing regularly and wiping rosin off after each session extends their life.
Are these authentic Pirastro strings?
Yes. Symphonia stocks Pirastro through the official supply chain. Faulty strings are replaced in line with manufacturer warranty.
