Original Medium, Strong, or Soloist Medium.
Original Medium
The standard balance
The most widely used Larsen Original voicing. A clear, balanced, and responsive string for orchestral, chamber, and solo playing. Consistent dynamic response and excellent projection.
A: L2-333.112 · D: L2-333.122
Original Strong
More power and resistance
Higher tension than the Medium. Adds power and bite, particularly in the A and D, making it a useful choice for players with a heavier bow arm or instruments that need more projection in the upper register.
A: L2-333.113 · D: L2-333.123
Soloist Medium
Refined solo voice
The Soloist voicing is slightly firmer and more focused than the Original, designed for a singing, projecting tone in solo contexts. Preferred by players who want a clearer, more centred upper register.
A: L2-331.112 · D: L2-331.122

Frequently asked
Larsen Original cello strings, in short.
What voicings are available on this page?
This page offers three voicings for the A and D strings: Original Medium (L2-333.112/122), Original Strong (L2-333.113/123), and Soloist Medium (L2-331.112/122). Select the voicing and position from the variant dropdown at the top of the page.
What is the difference between Original Medium and Original Strong?
The Strong version is higher tension. It adds power and projection, particularly useful for players with a heavier bow arm or instruments with a less projecting upper register. The Medium is the standard, well-suited to most instruments and playing styles.
What is the difference between Original and Soloist Medium?
The Soloist Medium has a slightly firmer, more focused voice aimed at solo and concerto use. Players who want a more centred, singing upper register for solo performance often prefer the Soloist. The Original Medium is the more versatile choice for orchestral and chamber playing.
How long do Larsen Original strings last?
Lifespan depends on playing hours, perspiration, and environment. A daily-playing professional or advanced student should expect several months of consistent tone. Replace when the sound becomes dull or unfocused.
How long do new strings take to settle in?
Allow 24 to 48 hours of normal playing. Larsen strings are known for quick and reliable settle-in. Retune gently and wipe rosin residue off after each session.
Are these genuine Larsen strings?
Yes. Symphonia stocks Larsen through the official supply chain. If a string is faulty on arrival or fails prematurely under normal use, we arrange the replacement directly.
