Comparing pernambuco and carbon-fibre bows

Material is one part of a bow’s description. A useful trial compares the actual bows on your own instrument rather than assigning a guaranteed sound to wood or carbon fibre.

What to include in the trial

Use familiar passages to compare balance, articulation, quiet playing and sustained sound. Ask about the individual bow’s condition, repair history and maintenance. Write down what feels easier or harder; a material label alone cannot make that decision for you.
