Why buy as a set
Three reasons to take the whole pack.
Tonal coherence
All four strings voiced together for the same complex, rich Oliv gut character. The gold-wound D defines the midrange, carried through from the deep G to the brilliant gold E.
Set value
The complete Set is priced below the same four strings purchased individually.
Professional gut, complete
The gold standard for professional gut strings, matched and ready in one order. Everything required for period-instrument and solo performance, from the gold-plated E down to the gut G.
About Oliv
Complex, rich, and steeped in tradition.
Oliv strings are crafted with a traditional gut core, offering a complex and rich tone that evolves beautifully with each note. They represent the gold standard for traditional gut strings, known for remarkable overtones, a broad dynamic range, and exceptional responsiveness across the entire register.
The gold-plated E string options complement the warm gut character of the lower strings. Oliv strings are favoured by professional violinists who seek the unique warmth and complexity that only a gut core can provide in solo performance.
The four voices
E Gold, A, D Gold, G — each string's character.
E String
Gold-plated clarity
Gold-plated steel, ball and loop options. Clear, brilliant, and powerful. Complements the warm gut character of the lower strings without overpowering them.
A String
Brilliant gut A
Aluminium-wound gut core, 13.5 gauge. Bright and responsive in the upper register, with the nuanced character that defines a fine gut A string.
D String
Gold-wound midrange
Gold-aluminium-wound gut core, 16.5 gauge. Rich overtones and warm depth through the middle register. The gold-aluminium winding contributes to Oliv D’s tonal character.
G String
Deep gut foundation
Gold-silver-wound gut core, 16 gauge. Deep, warm, and richly complex on the low string, providing the powerful foundation expected from a professional gut G.

Frequently asked
Oliv set, in short.
What is included in the Oliv violin set?
All four strings for a 4/4 violin: E gold-plated steel (ball or loop), aluminium-wound gut A 13.5, gold-aluminium-wound gut D 16.5, and gold-silver-wound gut G 16. This Symphonia bundle uses D 16.5 and G 16; Pirastro’s standard medium packaged set uses D 16.75 and G 15.75.
Ball end or loop end — which E Gold should I choose?
Loop end fits most fine tuners and adjusters. Ball end is required for tailpieces without a fine tuner loop attachment. Check your tailpiece fitting before ordering.
How long do Oliv gut strings last?
Gut strings generally have a shorter lifespan than synthetic strings, particularly in humid climates. Replace when the tone becomes unreliable, intonation drifts, or the string surface shows wear. Wipe rosin off after every session and store the instrument in a stable environment.
Why is the set cheaper than buying four singles?
The complete Set is priced below the same four strings purchased individually. Tonal consistency is the larger advantage: all four strings are voiced together for the same Oliv gut character.
Are these authentic Pirastro strings?
Yes. Symphonia stocks Pirastro through the official supply chain. Faulty strings are replaced in line with manufacturer warranty.
