Leatherwood Eco Rosin is a small-batch rosin from Australia, formulated from plant-based resins, organic oils and waxes rather than the petroleum-derived additives found in many conventional rosins. The hemp wrapping is SCS-certified recycled material, and the ingredients are vegan and biodegradable. It plays as well as it is made: a clean, precise bite on the string with a resonant, open sound that suits players at any level.

The Eco formula delivers low to medium traction, which means the bow catches the string cleanly without grabbing. The result is a generous warmth in sustained playing and good clarity in faster passages. It suits a wide range of playing styles, from chamber warmth to solo projection, without favouring any one character too strongly.
How to use
Getting the most from it.
- Apply lightly with slow, full-length strokes along the bow hair. A thin, even coat is more effective than heavy application.
- New bow hair may need a few sessions to build up an initial layer. Do not rush this stage.
- Wipe strings and instrument top after each session to remove rosin dust.
- Because the formula is plant-based, it responds well in moderate temperature conditions. Avoid prolonged heat exposure.
Care and storage
Keep it in good condition.
Store in the recycled container in a dry place at room temperature. The plant-based formula can soften more quickly than synthetic rosins in heat, so keep it out of direct sunlight and away from warm car interiors. The hemp wrap protects the cake from knocks; reuse the container between sessions.

Is this rosin suitable for players with rosin sensitivities?
The Eco formula uses plant-based resins rather than synthetic additives, which some sensitive players find more tolerable. It does still contain colophony derived from plant sources, so players with a severe colophony allergy should check the full ingredient list or seek a colophony-free option.
How often should I apply rosin?
A few light strokes before each session is typically enough. The medium traction of this rosin means less is often more. Over-application can produce a fuzzy, dense tone rather than a clean one.
Does rosin have a shelf life?
Rosin does not expire quickly, but plant-based formulas can change in texture over several years. Store it properly and use it regularly, and it will last a long time. If it becomes glassy or produces no powder, replace it.
Is this the same as the full Leatherwood Bespoke range?
The Eco is Leatherwood's sustainably-focused formula. The Bespoke range offers additional traction grades (soft, medium, firm) tailored more specifically to individual instrument and bow combinations. The Eco provides excellent all-round performance for most players.
