Opal Titan cello set,
four voices in one.

Set value

$550 in singles $530 as a set

Save $20, plus the matched response of a complete pack

Why buy as a set

Three reasons to take the whole pack.

Tonal coherence

All four strings are voiced together by Opal around the same steel rope core. You get matched response from C through A without mixing brands.

Better price per string

Buying as a set saves $20 versus the four individual strings, and removes the inventory friction of ordering one string at a time.

Ready for the hall

Opal Titan has a short break-in window (24 to 72 hours) and the steel rope core stabilises quickly, so the set is performance-ready almost immediately.

About Opal Titan

Engineered for stability and projection.

The Opal Titan series is engineered for cellists who need maximum stability under heavy bow weight and projection that carries through the largest concert halls. The strings use a steel rope core, an unusually strong construction approach that resists pitch drift and returns to centre quickly under stress.

Across the set, Opal Titan delivers a powerful, resonant sound with immediate articulation. The voice sits on the balanced-to-bright side of the spectrum, making the Titan family a strong choice for instruments that need projection without losing tonal core. Symphonia is the authorised Opal dealer in New Zealand, so every set sold here comes direct from the official supply chain with manufacturer-backed warranty.

The four voices

What each string brings.

A · Steel rope core / Alloy

Clear and focused top

Steel rope core wound with alloy. Immediate articulation and a focused upper register that speaks cleanly under the bow.

D · Steel rope core / Alloy

Articulate middle

Matched alloy-wound construction with the A. The D carries the same fast response and clarity for a seamless transition between the top two strings.

G · Steel rope core / Tungsten

Resonant lower middle

Steel rope core wound with tungsten. Deep, resonant tone with the projection to fill a hall, and enough tension to accept substantial bow weight.

C · Steel rope core / Tungsten

Hall-filling bottom

Tungsten-wound steel rope. The C carries Opal Titan's signature combination of stability and projection, holding focus through fortissimo passages.

Played at the highest level

Trusted by soloists and principal cellists.

Tchaikovsky Prize Winner

Anastasia Kobekina

International soloist with repertoire spanning Baroque to contemporary. Performs on a 1743 Giovanni Battista Guadagnini and is an ambassador for the expressive range of the Opal Titan series.

Head of Cello, NUS

Li Wei Qin

Winner of first prize at the Naumburg Competition (New York) and silver medal at the Tchaikovsky International Competition. Plays a 1780 Joseph Guadagnini cello strung with Opal Titan for projection and clarity.

Principal Cellist, MRO

David Pia

Prize-winner of the Tchaikovsky Competition Moscow and principal cellist with the Staatstheater am Gaertnerplatz Orchester (Munich). Performs on his Stradivarius cello with Opal strings.

Playability

Fast articulation, stable tuning, hall-filling projection.

Opal Titan is voiced for orchestral, chamber, and solo playing at a professional level. The steel rope core resists pitch drift through long rehearsals and concert sessions. The lower strings accept substantial bow weight without choking; the upper strings stay focused in high positions.

The Titan voice favours clarity and projection over an overtly warm character, which makes the set well suited to instruments that already carry their own warmth, and to players who want the headroom to shape dynamics without the string giving way.

Frequently asked

Opal Titan cello set, in short.

What is included in the Opal Titan cello set?

The set includes all four strings for a 4/4 cello: A, D, G, and C, one of each. All use Opal's steel rope core. The A and D are alloy-wound; the G and C are tungsten-wound.

Why is the set cheaper than buying the four singles?

The set is $530 versus $550 for the four singles totalled together, so you save $20 plus the convenience of a single order. The bigger reason most cellists buy as a set is tonal balance: all four strings are voiced together, so the response is matched from C through A.

How is Opal Titan different from Opal Gold for cello?

Both ranges aim for balance and projection, but Titan leans further into stability and brilliance with a steel rope core throughout the set, while Gold uses a twin X-core construction on G and C for a slightly warmer, more pliable feel. Titan is typically chosen by players who want maximum projection and tuning stability; Gold by players who want warmth without losing clarity.

How long do Opal Titan strings last?

Lifespan depends on playing hours, perspiration, and climate. A daily-playing professional or advanced student should expect several months of consistent tone from a set. Replace when the sound becomes dull, unfocused, or false in the upper positions.

How long do new Opal Titan strings take to settle in?

Allow 24 to 72 hours of normal playing for the strings to settle. Retune gently in small increments and wipe rosin residue off after each session.

Are these genuine Opal product?

Yes. Symphonia is Opal's authorised dealer in New Zealand. Every set comes direct from the official supply chain with manufacturer-backed warranty. If a string is faulty on arrival or fails prematurely under normal use, we arrange the replacement directly.
