Larsen Sovereign Cello Strings Set

Larsen Sovereign · Complete Set

Larsen Sovereign,
the soloist's flagship, as a set.

The full four-string Larsen Sovereign set for 4/4 cello — Larsen's flagship synthetic-core line, voiced at the bright, brilliant end of the range for clarity, projection, and ringing overtones. Made in Denmark by Larsen Strings.

About Sovereign

A bright, brilliant soloist's voice.

Larsen Sovereign sits at the bright, brilliant end of the Larsen cello line — clarity, projection, and ringing overtones rather than the warmth of Original or the dark power of Magnacore. Where Larsen Original gives a more rounded, versatile balance and Magnacore gives weight and dark complexity, Sovereign is voiced as the flagship soloist string — prized for high-clarity attack, fast bow response, and an overtone palette that carries cleanly through a hall.

The A and D use a synthetic multi-filament core wound with steel for fast response and shimmering, ringing presence. The G and C are tungsten-wound for density and focused projection, keeping the low register clear rather than dark. The result is a set that speaks easily in solo repertoire, cuts through an orchestra without losing definition, and still rewards subtle bow control in chamber playing.

Singles totalled: A $145 + D $165 + G $310 + C $340 = $960. Matching Sovereign set: $940. Buying as a set also guarantees the four strings come from the same manufacturer batch, which most cellists find balances faster.

Who it suits

Made for cellists who want clarity and projection at the top of the dynamic range.

Larsen Sovereign suits advanced students, professionals, and soloists who need a string that carries through a hall with ringing brilliance rather than darkness. If you tend to play with a forward bow and want high-clarity attack and fast response on the A and D paired with a tungsten-grounded, focused G and C, Sovereign is the Larsen voicing built for that.

If you want a more classically balanced, versatile orchestral and chamber voice, Larsen Original may suit better. If you want maximum warmth and complexity with a darker centre, Larsen Magnacore is the alternative.

Frequently asked

Larsen Sovereign cello strings, in short.

How is Sovereign different from Larsen Original and Magnacore?

Larsen Original is the classic, balanced Larsen voice — versatile and even across orchestra, chamber, and solo playing. Magnacore is a multi-stranded steel-core line voiced for warmth and dark power. Sovereign is the flagship soloist voicing at the bright, brilliant end of the line: high clarity, fast bow response, and ringing overtones, with tungsten-wound G and C for focused density.

What tension does Sovereign come in?

The standard Sovereign voicing is medium tension across the set. This is what we stock — if you need an alternative gauge, email and we will confirm availability from Larsen direct.

How long do Sovereign strings last?

Lifespan depends on playing hours, perspiration, and climate. A daily-playing professional or advanced student should expect several months of consistent tone. Replace when the sound becomes dull, unfocused, or false in the upper positions.

How long do new Sovereign strings take to settle in?

Allow 24 to 72 hours of normal playing for the strings to settle. Retune gently in small increments and wipe rosin residue off after each session. Avoid sudden temperature changes where possible.

Are these genuine Larsen strings?

Yes. Symphonia stocks Larsen Sovereign through the official Larsen Strings supply chain. If a string is faulty on arrival or fails prematurely under normal use, we will arrange a replacement in line with the manufacturer's warranty.
