Viowiess Prizma Mute
The Prizma disc-style mute in the two-hole Tourte round shape. Designed for live orchestral performance where pianissimo is required. Patented anti-rattle locking design keeps it parked and ready.
What it is
The Viowiess Round Shape mute uses the classic disc profile with two prongs, designed to straddle the A and D strings of a violin or viola. As part of the Prizma line, it features a patented acoustic resonating mesh inside the body and a multi-colour printed exterior. The two-hole round design delivers greater dampening than the single-hole viol shape, making it the right choice when full pianissimo is called for in live performance. Available in violin/viola and cello sizes.

Sound profile
The round two-hole design straddles both the A and D strings, giving more contact with the bridge than the single-hole viol shape. This produces a greater volume reduction, suited to full pianissimo passages in orchestral playing. The patented acoustic mesh prevents the tone from becoming flat: even at pianissimo the instrument retains resonance and warmth rather than sounding choked or thin.
How to use
Care and storage
Wipe the surface with a dry cloth to remove rosin dust after playing sessions. The multi-colour Prizma print is durable; avoid abrasive cleaners. Leave the mute parked on the strings or store it in your case. The locking mechanism keeps it secure in either position.
Questions
When should I use this mute?
This is a full orchestral mute for live performance. Use it when the score asks for pianissimo or con sordino, or when the conductor requests muted playing. For quiet home practice requiring major volume reduction, a heavy metal practice mute is more appropriate.
What is the difference between the round shape and the viol shape?
The round (two-hole) shape straddles both the A and D strings and delivers a fuller pianissimo effect. The viol (single-hole) shape fits on a single string and gives a more moderate mezzo-piano reduction. The round shape is the better choice when you need the deepest muted effect in performance.
Can this mute damage the bridge?
Normal use with a rubber mute will not damage a healthy, well-fitted bridge. Avoid leaving any mute clamped tightly on the bridge during prolonged storage. The precision fit of the Prizma line distributes pressure evenly.
Can I choose a specific colour?
Online orders are dispatched in random mixed colours. Come into the store if you would like to pick a specific colour from the range in person.
